One of the Jets’ only good defensive plays in their loss at Buffalo was a PD in the end zone by a cornerback the Jets recently added, Samuel Womack. It was on a fade in the left corner of the end zone to WR Josh Palmer.
CBS analyst Jason McCourty, a former NFL CB, praised Womack’s technique on the play.
It was one of the better plays by a defensive back this season. I’m not being a wise guy. It was a very nice play, and I’m not saying it to take a shot at anybody else.
Not making him into Deion Saunders, but you could tell this guy has been around a little bit, and got some good training over the years. He was a fifth-round pick of San Francisco in 2022 and spent a couple of seasons there, followed by stints in Indianapolis and Tennessee.
On December 2, 2025, Womack was signed to the Jets’ practice squad.
People are quick to point out the Jets’ injuries in the secondary, and I’m not saying players like Womack and Nik Needham are the panacea, but what were you accomplishing by starting two UDFAs like Jordan and Dean Clark, which the Jets were doing in December?
Neither was ready, and both contributed to the Jets getting gashed through the air, due to no fault of their own. They weren’t ready for prime time.
Remember when Aaron Glenn benched Quincy Williams and Jamien Sherwood for a quarter each, earlier in the year, not in the same game, and then re-inserted them into the starting lineup. The narrative at the time was that they got the message.
But their play really didn’t improve, so what message did they get, and when they continued to struggle, why didn’t he pull them again?
Glenn would roll with Michael Clemons no matter how bad the film was. In fact, even though he was struggling in a backup rotational role, when Will McDonald went on IR, he was made the starter.
Look, I understand that people might say this is part of tanking, but I think there is something else at work here.
Glenn’s personnel judgment is something that needs to be put under the microscope.
I want to share something I tweeted today:
“You could make a strong argument that Aaron Glenn needs to do some major self-scouting on how he evaluates QBs. From showing Rodgers the door, to giving Fields 40 million and anointing him the starter, to going with a rookie UDFA as his #3, he might need to tweak his approach.”
I’ve covered the Jets for a long time, this might be one of the worst one year period for QB decisions in a while.
I’m not saying Glenn should be fired as coach. I don’t fire people. But you could make the argument that Darren Mougey should have control of personnel, and just allow Glenn focus on coaching the team.
But not sure anything is going to change around here from a structure standpoint. The powers-that-be seem to truly believe in Glenn’s vision for the football operation.
Is that based on his vision, or not wanting to buy out the last four years of his contract, a deal likely in the $10-12 million range? I can’t answer that.
But remember, Woody’s right-hand man is financial guru Ira Axselrad, who runs “The Johnson Company.” He is a brilliant financial advisor . . .
Willie Colon said on SNY, a Jets media partner, about the team after the season finale – “You saw guys go rogue on tape.”
Who is he talking about?
He didn’t say.
Some fans on Twitter surmised that he was talking about Quincy Williams.
It certainly looked that way at times, but I don’t think that was the case at all.
Williams being out of position in coverage as much as he is, to me, is not about him going “rogue” but just having shaky coverage instincts.
It’s almost like the argument that some made that they saw effort issues in the five straight blowout losses.
I didn’t see that.
When you have young cover guys blowing coverages or young defensive linemen struggling to get off blocks, do you think young players, who are trying to make a name for themselves in the league, are going to dog it?
So I don’t think Williams was going rogue on tape, or there was a lack of effort from players.
It’s more bad X’s and O’s and some players who aren’t good enough to play in the NFL . . .
Today was “baggy day” in Florham Park with the players cleaning out their lockers.
One thing you heard over and over again from players that they believe in Glenn and his vision.
Maybe some of them do, but what do you expect a player to say with cameras and tape machines in their faces?
C’mon now.
There has been no vision displayed so far. Just keeping it real folks.
Perhaps we will start to see that vision in 2026.
