A few thoughts about the rugby player on the Jets Dan Leberfeld
Florham Park – The Jets have an Australian rugby player in camp with them.
His name is Valentine Holmes, and he plays rugby for Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in the National Rugby League
While Holmes isn’t getting a ton of reps in camp, when he does get a chance, he has displayed outstanding hands.
Holmes is being used as a running back with the Jets, and when he gets a chance to catch passes out of the backfield, he has displayed soft, natural, confident hands. He doesn’t fight the ball at all, which many running backs do.
Holmes also looks like he has very good speed. I don’t have a 40-yard dash time on him, but watching him, he has good wheels.
While he’s a long shot to make the team, with his terrific hands, good speed and top-shelf toughness, he could make a fine candidate for the Jets’ practice squad where he could spend the season honing his football skills.
