MMQB’s Albert Breer announced the Jets requested an interview with Green Bay Packers OC Jeff Hafley and it will happen in the next few days.
The 45-year-old native of Montvale, New Jersey did a terrific job in his first year as Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator this past season.
Not only is he a terrific defensive coordinator, but has head coaching experience, leading the Boston College program from 2020-23. Head coaching experience on any level is a plus in the Jets search. After 14 years out of the playoffs, it’s probably not time for a novice on the sidelines next year. Being a first-time head coach on any level can make your head spin that first year.
And this past season in Green Bay was not his only NFL experience, having served as an assistant from 2012-18 with stops in Tampa Bay, Cleveland and San Francisco.
It should be noted that he wasn’t fired by Boston College after the 2023 season, a 7-6 campaign for the Eagles, but left of his own volition to get back into the NFL.
Considering his resume, this is certainly somebody the Jets and their consultants should give serious consideration to.
