He is looking at Justin Jefferson contract. Do the Jets really need that?

ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced on Tuesday that Jets defensive end Haason Reddick intends to hold out of training camp until he gets a new contract.

This has to be one of the most eclectic contract disputes in Jets’ history. When was the last time, if ever, the team traded for a contract dispute? On April 1, 2024, the Jets acquired Reddick from the Philadelphia Eagles for a conditional third-round selection.

Though it’s possible we are looking at a bait-and-switch situation where the player/agent said one thing before the trade and then reversed course after the trade, so maybe it’s unfair to say they “traded for a contract dispute.”

But considering this Reddick mess, why would the Jets even consider trading for Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams, which a lot of fans want them to do?

“Davante Adams wants a new contract,” said former NFL GM Mike Lombardi on VSIN. “Davante Adams wants to get paid because he is no different than anybody else who has seen this receiver market go insane and wants to get paid.

“Right now, Davante Adams is sitting down there saying, ‘Wait a minute, where is my scratch? I made 28 million per year. I’m one of the best receivers in the league, I’m $7 million behind Justin Jefferson.’

“[Adams’ desire for a new deal] has been communicated to the Raiders all along. He did not come to the offseason. He came to minicamp and didn’t do anything.

“I think this contract is going to be a problem.”

So considering what is going on with Reddick, trading for another disgruntled veteran looking for a new contract, might not be the way to go.
