New York Post reporter Brian Costello announced on X today that, “The Jets have agreed to a deal to bring back OT Chukwuma Okorafor, per source.”
This is a very prudent move by the Jets’ brass.
Okorofor was the Jets’ backup swing tackle last year and will likely be in that role again in 2026.
To have a backup swing tackle, who has 60 career NFL starts, some on both the left and right sides, is a nice luxury to have.
In other words, if he has to go in a game, it won’t be his first rodeo.
Okorafor is entering his ninth season, with stints in Pittsburgh and New England before joining the Jets last spring.
He didn’t need to play last year because both Jets tackles stayed healthy, but we all know how often the big guys up front get dinged, so having an experienced backup swing tackle, with a lot of starts, is always ideal.
Also, Okorafor was a terrific mentor to the Jets’ young tackles last year – RT Armand Membou and LT Olu Fashanu.
Those two guys were often attached at the hip with the veteran tackle on the practice field, taking in his wealth of knowledge.
Solid move bringing back the Western Michigan product.
