Was this really a revenge game for this player?

Tampa – Tampa Bay QB Baker Mayfield believes his team’s win over the Jets on Sunday was personal because they fired his head coach, Todd Bowles, in 2018, and Steve Wilks, the current Jets DC, benched the QB when he was the interim coach of Carolina in 2022.

While Mayfield might have a point when it comes to Bowles and himself, another name he threw in the same category seems like a reach.

“I loved it,” Mayfield said about beating the Jets. “And [along with firing Bowles], their D-coordinator was the one that cut me in Carolina. Lot of stuff was personal today. Haason Reddick, former Jet … lot of people.”

Reddick?

What did the Jets do to the defensive end, who refused to honor his contract last year after being traded to Gang Green from Philadelphia, and sat out almost half the season?

His camp claims the Jets promised to give him a new deal, but the team denies that.

And he’s playing this year in Tampa Bay for the same money as his Jets’ deal last year, a one-year deal worth $14 million.

So maybe he should be mad at the Bucs as well if he doesn’t like that contract number.

You could argue yesterday’s game was a grudge match on some level for Mayfield against Wilks, and Bowles against the Jets, but Reddick?

Reddick is on his fifth team in six years, so perhaps you could argue he has a lot of personal games these days.
