Joe Piccininni of Newfield High School in Selden, NY, has been named this week’s recipient of the New York Jets High School Coach of the Week Award. For his efforts, he will receive $1,000 to benefit the school’s football program, and he will be presented with a certificate from the New York Jets.
In its 15th year, the award is given to a coach in the Tri-State area who serves the best interests of the game through the teaching of sound football fundamentals, the motivation of young players to achieve, and the promotion of youth football by way of dedication to their community, their school and their student-athletes.
Coach Piccininni is in his sixth season as head coach of the Wolverines. A 1978 Alumnus of Bellport High School, he was a Newsday and Daily News 1st Team selection as a defensive lineman in 1977. Coach Piccininni matriculated to Carson-Newman College and transferred to Oklahoma Panhandle State University, where he graduated with a degree in health and physical education. Coach Piccininni is currently in his 11th year as a physical education teacher at Newfield High School.
