Late in the spring, the Jets signed offensive tackle Courtland Ford, a rookie free agent from UCLA.
Well, these days, like a lot of players, he bounced around a lot in college, so he wasn’t just from UCLA, but also USC and Kentucky.
Ford certainly looks the part for NFL offensive tackle at 6-5, 315 with long arms.
Coming out of high school in Texas, he was pretty highly recruited and chose USC over the likes of Alabama, Georgia and LSU.
While he has little chance to make the Jets’ 53-man roster out of camp, with most spots already decided, as is the case with most NFL teams, with a good camp, Ford could land a practice squad spot.
He has a lot to work on, like getting stronger and lowering his pad level, but with some good coaching from the Jets’ offensive line coach Steve Heiden and his assistants Brian Natkin and Al Netter, if Ford shows improvement throughout camp, maybe he can turn into a diamond in the rough for Gang Green.
He’s pretty light on his feet for a big fella.
