There is too much censorship these days. Freedom of speech is important.
But Colorado football coach Deion Sanders refusing to answer questions from Denver Post columnist Sean Keeler is perhaps understandable.
“After a series of sustained, personal attacks on the football program and specifically Coach Prime, the CU Athletic Department in conjunction with the football program, have decided not to take questions from Denver Post columnist Sean Keeler at football-related events,” the University of Colorado athletic department said in a statement.”
In past columns, Keeler called Sanders “Deposition Deion,” the “Bruce Lee of B.S” and other names.
Covering players and coaches for a long time, I’ve always believed that criticizing the people you cover is fine if warranted, but don’t get personal. Don’t take cheap shots.
If you want to criticize a player for a fumble, interception, giving up a sack, whatever, that is fine. If you want to criticize a coach for his won-loss record that is fine.
But don’t engage in personal attacks and name-calling.
And if you do, people like Deion Sanders have a right to be ticked at you, and perhaps avoid your questions.
