It seems like some reporters and fans have latched on to this theory that the Jets don’t have enough talent at wide receiver. That is shortsighted . . .
“Wouldn’t the Jets have helped Mark Sanchez more with better wide receivers?” asked Mike Lupica, who is never around the team.
I’m tired of hearing this refrain. And it’s not just Lupica, he’s got plenty of company.
The Jets have plenty of weapons in the passing game.
First of all, let’s start with tight end – they have three fast, athletic tight ends – Dustin Keller, Jeff Cumberland and Josh Baker.
The Jets have big plans for all three of them this year. They threw a ton to them throughout the summer in Cortland.
Cumberland could be a star is he becomes more consistent – he’s 6-4, 260 and runs under 4.5. He’s a freak.
As for the wide receiver position, Santonio Holmes and Jeremy Kerley are the Jets #1 and #3 receivers and they are both hurt, but will be back in the next few weeks.
I don’t understand the logic of people that want the Jets to go out and get receivers. What are they going to do, bring them in for a few weeks? What will you do with them when Holmes and Kerley return? Have some vision people.
Lupica wouldn’t know Jordan White if he was standing next to him.
This kid is going to make the team. He gets open and catches everything in sight.
Patrick Turner is a good #4 receiver with very nice size – 6-5, 225. He’s also a terrific blocker.
Okay, right there you have five receivers, and I’m not even including Chad Schilens at this point. With him, you have six.
And the Jets throw the football a ton to their backs.
So with three tight ends with deep speed, five (or six) receiving spots set, and all the throwing to the backs, where is the huge void that I keep hearing about?
It’s just foolhardy and reactionary . . .
If I were running the Jets, I would have picked a right tackle in the third round.
Both Josh Mauga and Nick Bellore have had good summers, and I think the need was overrated a little bit. But Rex fell in love with a player (DeMario Davis), and there was no stopping him.
Look, I think Davis is going to be good, but what was a bigger need, a reserve ILB or a right tackle? This draft was deep at right tackles, a good one could have been had in Round Three.
I know Davis was brought in to help the Jets cover tight ends better, but quite honestly, Mauga has looked better doing that than Davis . . .
Just like last season, with all the focus Hunter, not enough focus is on the inconsistent play of D’Brickashaw Ferguson.
Against the Giants, he whiffed on LB Keith Rivers on a run off left tackle that lost four yards. On that same series, he was somewhat implicated in the sack by Linval Joseph. Brick’s man Osi peeled off the left tackle, and was one of the reasons the pocket collapsed, and Joseph cleaned up the mess.
Obviously Brick’s issues aren’t as significant as Hunter’s, but he needs to step up as well . . .
