A big helping of Dan’s Website Whispers including a lot of Revis, speed issue, Cumberland, Patrick Turner and so much more . . .
With the release of David Clowney, the Jets aren’t going to have any burners at receiver for the first month of the season.
Obviously, when Santonio Holmes returns, that all changes, but in the mean time, it probably would have behooved the Jets to keep the 4.3 Clowney around. To keep defenses honest.
Braylon Edwards can get deep once in a while with a good move, or winning a jump ball, but he’s not a burner. Neither are J-Co or Brad Smith. And as for Turner, his speed isn’t very good. And if you talk to people in Miami, a lack of speed isn’t his only problem.
“He is slow, doesn’t run good routes, will drop a ball for every one he catches – he won’t have a long NFL career,” said one long-time Dolphin observer. “I don’t know why the Jets picked him up.”
Tell us what you really feel.
“I can’t say it any more clearly: The guy is just not a player,” said the observer. “Dude, if he was any good, the Dolphins wouldn’t have kept two UDFAs (Marlon Moore, Roberto Wallace) instead of him.”
The Jets keep talking about the good scouting report they had on him coming out of USC. But what about what a flop he was in Miami? That doesn’t matter?
Mike Tannenbaum is a Bill Parcells’ disciple. He learned a great deal from “The Big Tuna” and is still close with him.
So the fact that Parcells dumped this guy after a year should be all he needs to know. The heck with his scouting report!
Look it- I know Clowney didn’t show a lot of special teams this summer, but to dump him for this guy, is just heartless.
And doesn’t make much sense . . .
As I’m walking on the practice field today, what do I see? Jeff Cumberland making a one-handed catch. It looks like the Jets struck absolute gold with this guy . . .
I don’t care what they say about rules and technicalities being the reason for T-Rich being released (and re-signed shortly), I think they are bringing him back now because of the intense heat they got over the move from the media, fans (and their own players) . . .
Kenwin Cummings says he has full range of motion back in his right arm and will be ready to go on Monday night. He suffered a stringer against Washington . . .
How and when did offensive tackle Patrick Brown find out that he was claimed by the Jets – by a Minnesota Viking personnel official as he was walking out to practice on Sunday in full uniform . . .
Darrelle Revis’ camp is claiming that he will be the highest paid cornerback. How can that be the case when the deal is a four-year, $46 million?
Nnamdi Asomugha is the highest paid cornerback at $16 million this year.
Well Revis got $32 million guaranteed, so perhaps he’s getting all of that in the first two years, so that will equal Asomugha’s salary. Or if he’s getting $16 million in one of the two years, that that would equal Nnamdi.
Clearly, there is some way at looking at this that allows the agents and the player make the claim, which was likely an important part of this compromise deal.
The agents said they didn’t want to talk about the terms when addressing reporters today in Florham Park. All of a sudden the cat got their tongue? Don’t worry, it will get out.
