Why did Glenn leave out this position when talking about the unit?

Was it just an oversight, or was it a statement?

After the Jets picked offensive tackle Armand Membou in the 2025 first round, Aaron Glenn was asked by a reporter, “How much can a guy like [Membou], especially being an athletic freak, help you [on] the offensive line?”

Glenn responded: “Man, tremendously, I mean if you just take a look at all the guys that we have, and if you look at it, we have our left tackle, we have our right tackle, we have our guards. So, listen, I know this, every skill player on our offense is excited right now, just because of what we have up front, and again, you build it inside out, and I’m a firm believer in that, and that’s what we did today.”

Why did he leave out the center position?

It makes you wonder what the new regime thinks about incumbent center Joe Tippmann.

As for Tippmann’s overall play last season, aside from occasional snap issues, he did some excellent run-blocking, often doing nice work pulling to the second level.

But with a new staff in town that didn’t pick him, confirmation bias goes by the wayside. He’s going to have to prove himself again.

Keep in mind, one of the first free agents the new regime signed was Josh Myers, who was the Green Bay Packers’ starting center the last three years, and was Justin Fields’ center at Ohio State.

Some would argue that Tippmann isn’t a stone-cold lock to be the Jets’ starting center, so when the head coach leaves out his name when talking about the team’s offensive line, it makes you wonder.
