Premium – The “Fire Idzik” activists were at it again today. Are they spreading their focus to wide? Perhaps. Let’s take a closer look . . .
I was not on the field the first time a plane flew over Jets practice calling for the team to fire “John Idzik.”
I was there today.
One long-time columnist thought it was overkill.
“Okay, we get your point,” he said to other writers.
Nobody asked Rex Ryan or the players about it this time around.
Last time they did.
Some are getting tired of this lobby.
It was interesting that that for the second time in a row, the activists knew the perfect time to fly the plane – the half-hour window the media is allowed to watch practice.
This isn’t public knowledge.
I’m not saying you need to be a Russian spy to find out this information, but I’m just saying it’s not something that is announced to the public.
That has led to speculation around the complex that a media member is leaking this to the activists.
A reporter shouldn’t do that. In the media, you need to stay dispassionate about issues. If somebody gave the activists this information, they are basically involving themselves in the movement.
The activists are going to hand towels out to fans before the New England game, with a message suggesting the Jets fire John Idzik, Terry Bradway and Neil Glat.
I don’t know what is going to happen with Idzik and Bradway, but I can assure you that Glat isn’t getting fired.
He runs the business side. They are happy with him. Why is a target of the activists?
From what I hear, they don’t like that he was on the panel that picked Idzik.
That is true, but do you think he forced himself on it, or the owner asked him?
Glat knows he’s not a football guru. But if your boss asks you to help with the interviews, are you going to say, “no?”
The Bradway hate is a little over the top.
Is he the best personnel guy around? No, but there are a lot worse.
Every team, and I repeat, every team, has hits and misses in the draft. Some Jets fans and reporters have a myopic view of the world – like this team is the only one that makes bad draft picks.
Every team does.
And Bradway is just a consultant. He doesn’t have final say. And they ignore him plenty. Like on Russell Wilson.
And honestly, Bradway might come in very handy in the coming weeks. Why?
Because if the Jets are picking a new coach and/or GM, the Jets brass of Woody Johnson, Ira Akselrad and Glat need a football guy to lean on. None of them are football guys.
Whether some fans want to hear this or not, Bradway knows a million times more about coaching, scouting, strategy and so forth than Johnson, Akselrad and Glat.
He might be able to save this non-football trio from making an ill-advised decision.
I know some fans don’t want to hear that, but I’m just keeping it real.
