Dolphins might want a mulligan on this one . . .

On July 26, the Miami Dolphins waived cornerback Ryan “Bump” Cooper and he was claimed by the Jets.

Cooper has flashed in Jets camp since his arrival, making several plays in pass coverage, including today when he knocked away a pass on the goalline from QB Adrian Martinez to WR Tyler Johnson.

This was the second practice in a row that Cooper knocked away a pass on the goalline. He did the same on Tuesday.

Considering how thin the Miami Dolphins are at cornerback right now, after trading Jalen Ramsey to Pittsburgh, and losing Kader Kohou and Artie Burns to season-ending knee injuries in camp, they certainly could use Cooper.

Cooper entered the league with Baltimore in 2024 as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon State. He spent some time last season on the Ravens and Seattle Seahawks practice squads before landing with Miami in the 2025 off-season.

While it’s early, Cooper looks like a nice addition for the Jets.

It will be interesting to see if the Jets decide to release Cooper at the final cutdown, to perhaps move him to their practice squad, if the Dolphins put in a waiver claim, since they are thin at corner and he knows their system.

But then again, if Cooper keeps making plays on the ball in Jets camp, maybe they won’t risk putting him through waivers.
