Most Jets offensive coordinator hires become war criminals very quickly. It’s happened over and over again.
But all those people calling for the firing of Nathaniel Hackett will have to explain how that makes sense, considering he’s the offensive coordinator that the star QB wants, and runs the system the star QB wants.
And let’s be honest, when Aaron Rodgers returns, he will essentially be the co-offensive coordinator. Keep in mind that Rodgers changes many plays at the line anyway.
Hackett will call plays and Rodgers then goes to the line and works his mental magic.
“Rodgers is going to have the freedom and ability to just change things and do what he wants to do at the line of scrimmage, put [the Jets offense] in the best position possible,” former NFL center Shaun O’Hara said on NFL Network before the season.
So the idea of firing Hackett makes little sense.
Rodgers likes Hackett’s playbook and will change many plays at the line anyway based on the defensive configuration.
