If you are going to have an elite defense, you can’t let runners consistently take the edge on you.
The Jets struggled in this area against Miami last Sunday. This has happened in a number of games this season.
On Raheem Mostert’s two-yard touchdown run off left tackle early in the game, the right end got locked up, and the runner took the left edge.
In the second quarter, the Jets left end shots inside the tight end and failed to set the edge, and Mostert went off right tackle for 12 yards to the one-yard line. Then on the next play, Mostert took a pitch left and waltzed into the end zone because the edge wasn’t set well again.
Early in the fourth quarter, Mostert had an 18-yard gain to the left side when the Jets right end got mauled by Dolphins left tackle Terron Armstead.
So how about a little less Pro Bowl talk on social media and more talk about setting the edge better on defense?
