Florham Park – The Jets have not won a game since Halloween, and one of their best players is pissed off, and after their most recent loss to Miami, he said something that made headlines.
“Mindset is right, process is right but at the end of the day we gotta stop being losers,” wide receiver Garrett Wilson said Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.
He has every right to be ticked off. He’s having a terrific season, and doing his part.
And the mindset isn’t bad. The players are playing very hard. Effort isn’t the problem.
But some might argue, that when a team is 3-10 and has now missed the playoffs for 14 straight seasons, maybe the process isn’t always right.
How could it be with that kind of futility?
When you face a team with two backup offensive tackles, and your defense doesn’t register a sack or QB hit, maybe there is something wrong with the process.
When you too often leave opposing receivers wide open, allowing easy throws for opposing QBs, maybe there is something wrong with the process. What happened on Tua Tagovailoa’s game-winning TD to tight end Jonnu Smith?
So whether it’s the game prep process or the player evaluation process, the process is a little off.
Wilson’s process is right with 81 catches and five touchdowns in 13 games, but other parts of the process, perhaps not.
