Glenn can’t say it now, but an objective observer can – here goes . . .

The Jets’ defense gave up 239 yards rushing in their loss to Miami on Sunday.

Last week, in a win over Atlanta, they gave up 167 yards.

The Jets have had run defense issues most of the season.

People are quick to blame coaches and schemes, but maybe some of it is talent-related.

Maybe they just don’t have the requisite pieces to have a consistent run defense this year.

In a rare case of Glenn being asked a tough question in a post-game press conference, he was asked on Sunday if his team’s run defense issue could be talent-related.

“I’m not going to go into that,” Glenn said.

It’s understandable why he wouldn’t “go into that.” There is nothing he can do about the Jets’ talent issues right now. Fixing that is an off-season project, so why alienate his current players?

But watching this defense for 13 games so far, I can assure you, they have talent issues on defense that are contributing to their porous run defense.

Not going to name names here, so people on X can tag players. Not going to do that.

And I can assure you, in none of the cases, is it an effort issue. Not at all.

But when you keep watching the same players, have the same issues, week after week, it’s quite clear some of them might not be good enough.

What is the old line about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result?

The Jets have four picks in the first two rounds next year.

After picking a QB, perhaps they can use the other three selections on defense.

Glenn can’t say it, but a neutral observer can.

The Jets’ defense needs more talent.

And their defensive talent issues are contributing to their substandard run defense.

There is no doubt about it.

Just watch the tape.
