Aaron Glenn was reminded today that the Jets have struggled in division games in recent years. However, he had no interest in talking about history.
“I would say this: we really don’t focus on what happened in the past,” the Jets coach said in his Monday presser. “When it comes to us, we just focus on what’s happening right now.”
Buddha once said. “Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”
Also, it’s probably not a good idea to enter a regular season game putting extra pressure on yourselves based on the opponent. Every game should be viewed with this same sense of urgency and prepared for the same way.
This is known as “process thinking” in the sports world, and it’s considered to be the best approach.
“The only thing that we’re focused on is this is the one game that we have to play, this is the one game we want to win, this is the one game that we’re prepared for and look to win,” Glenn said.
So it’s best to let people outside the building be historians, or make division games bigger than other regular season games. Coaches and players must prepare for each game the same way.
“I know it’s the Patriots, I know it’s a division game, but we want to win this game just like we wanted to win the Cleveland game,” Glenn said.
