Glenn might have too much on his plate right now . . .

Aaron Glenn is a good man, and he’s giving it his best shot being the Jets’ football czar, but perhaps he has a little too much on his plate.

And that should not be taken as a personal affront by the coach or anybody associated with him.

Some coaches can handle being the football chief, like Bill Belichick during his glory days in New England, and like Sean Payton in Denver.

Some are best suited just focusing on coaching the team, and there are plenty in the league in that category, so don’t take that as an insult. It’s a heck of a job to have.

But the way the Jets’ offseason has gone, including waiting almost three weeks to fire seven (now eight) assistant coaches, might lead some to surmise that Glenn is trying to juggle too many balls right now.

Payton just lost in the AFC Championship and immediately fired three assistant coaches.

There is something amiss at 1 Jets Drive right now.

They need a president of football operations, like the Atlanta Falcons just made Matt Ryan.

Or an executive vice president of football operations, as the Jacksonville Jaguars did with Tony Boselli last year.

The Jets’ current setup is not ideal, with only business-types above the coach. Darren Mougey is not his boss.

Some might argue that Glenn has too much responsibility right now. While he was a solid HC candidate, was he the kind of candidate like Payton, where he was basically made the football czar? Some would argue that he was not that kind of candidate, but more a candidate who should mainly just focus on coaching the team.

The Jets need a Ryan or Boselli-type badly.

And making a move like that would not only help the football operation but be a tremendous PR move in Jets Nation, something the Jets could use right now.
