It’s well-documented that the Jets’ defense is not having the best of seasons.
You could make a strong argument that during the Jets’ 0-5 start, their defense hasn’t played well in any of the games.
Jets coach Aaron Glenn addressed the defensive issues on Wednesday by saying, “Defensively, we’ve got a lot of work to do and I understand that. Everyday, we’re chopping wood to make sure we get better, and the players understand that, the coaches understand that.”
While they certainly can improve, there are some things that they will not be able to fix until next off-season.
You could argue, the team’s new brass made some rookie mistakes with the defensive roster and depth chart.
Hey, it happens to the best of them.
Nobody has a crystal ball.
As Bill Parcells used to say, “Don’t judge the decision by the result.”
But the bottom line is they need to do some self-scouting on the defensive scouting that led to how this defense was constructed from a player personnel standpoint.
A lot of people are pointing the finger at DC Steve Wilks, and he could do a better job, but not sure what Dick LeBeau or Buddy Ryan would do with this defensive roster and depth chart.
Hey, it happens. First-year regimes, HC’s, and GM’s new to the job make some mistakes. They all do.
It’s how you correct them when you have a chance that will define you as a regime.
And unfortunately for Jets fans, some of these defensive personnel issues can’t be fixed until next off-season.
Because street free agents available in October generally don’t make a big difference.
