The Jets’ defense is struggling.
In fact, that side of the ball hasn’t played a well all season, and is a big reason for the team’s 0-5 start.
The cookbook answer is for Aaron Glenn to take over the defense from Steve Wilks.
But that probably wouldn’t make a big difference.
While Wilks might not be Buddy Ryan, the biggest issue for the Jets’ defense is personnel-related.
The Jets have deep-seated defensive personnel issues, and it’s not just one or two players.
And it’s not just the starters, but also rotational players.
I’m not going to name names in this article, so people will be able to tag their relatives and start a dispute.
If I were Aaron Glenn, I would ask mentor Bill Parcells, an all-time great defensive coach, to watch a few games and suggest who should stay and who should go.
I’m serious.
Sometimes people in the building are too close and can’t see the forest for the trees.
Now they can’t make a lot of changes right now, because in-season street free agents generally don’t make a big difference.
But next off-season, they probably need to blow up the defense, and might need 6-7 new starters.
Send some tape down to Parcells in Jupiter, FL, and say, “What do you think, who needs to stay and who needs to go?”
