Florham Park – With three games left, who will be the Jets QB if Brady Cook, Justin Fields, and Tyrod Taylor are all healthy?
“I’m going to play the guy that I think gives us the best chance to win,” Aaron Glenn said on December 8.
So if Taylor and/or Fields are cleared to play this week, with that criteria being set, who should start, one of those guys or Cook?
Well, it’s already been determined that Cook is going to start this week.
Does Cook give the Jets a better chance to win than Taylor if he’s medically cleared?
Does Cook give the Jets a better chance to win than Fields if he’s medically cleared?
Now, some people would argue, you need to start Cook in the last three games, to see what he can do, and figure out if he’s in your QB plans moving forward.
Well, if you make that argument, fine, but that doesn’t necessarily fit into the coach’s criteria that, “I’m going to play the guy that I think gives us the best chance to win.”
So if Taylor is healthy to play, when the Jets play two of the AFC’s better teams, in the last two weeks – New England and Buffalo, would Cook be the player that gives them the “best chance to win?”
Probably not.
So if the coach decides to start Cook for the last three games, the coach might need to shelve the “I’m going to play the guy that I think gives us the best chance to win” narrative and just admit he’s going to play the rookie to let him get experience and see how he performs.
