Late in the Jets-Lions game on Sunday, New York wide receiver Garrett Wilson made a spectacular catch for a 23-yard touchdown with Detroit defender D.J. Reed in tight coverage. In fact, the coverage was perhaps a little too tight, because the cornerback was called for pass interference, which was declined.
This touchdown catch made the score 24-22, and the Jets connected on a two-point conversion, to tie the score.
The Lions scored a TD to make it 31-24, which ended up being the final score.
Hall-of-Fame QB Drew Brees, who provided the color commentary on the Fox broadcast of the Jets-Lions game, had high praise for Wilson after this catch.
“When the ball is in the air, this guy’s ability to adjust to the throw – contort his body, his ability to maintain his composure, and then track that ball- makes him so special and so unique,” Brees said.
One draft expert called Wilson a “mid-air contortionist” when the player came out of Ohio State in 2022.
And that skill set was on full display on this 23-yard circus catch for a TD in Motown.
“Truly an unbelievable play by Garrett Wilson,” Brees said.
