On April 1, 2024, the Jets traded a conditional third-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles for defensive end Haason Reddick.
Five months later, Reddick has yet to practice with the team because he wants a new contract.
This is a rare NFL scenario. How often do you see a player holding out for a new contract from a team he has never played for?
Reddick has one year left on a three-year contract signed with the Eagles in March of 2022.
Even though Reddick has refused to honor that contract so far, and has created a lot of negative publicity for his new team, Jets GM Joe Douglas had some kind words for the player and his agent last Thursday.
“Obviously, ton of respect for Haason,” Douglas said.
He added: “I have a lot of respect for the agent as well.”
Some people might not have a ton of respect for the player and agent at this point after what has gone down over the last five months.
But some people feel it’s important to travel on the high road. Some would consider Douglas’ approach quite spiritual.
“We’ll always have difficult people who try to upset us and steal our peace and joy,” said Joel Osteen. “But, you don’t have to respond to every critic. You can decide to take the high road. If you will do your best to be at peace with people, even if they won’t take your peace, the good news is that peace will just come back to you. You’ll not only get your peace, but you’ll get their share as well! Today, stay in peace, cease from strife, and take the high road.”
Douglas has clearly chosen to travel on the high road with Reddick.
“When he does arrive, we’re all going to be excited,” Douglas said.
