Here is an article from January issue of JC about a big issue Jets might have fixed today . . .

*Over the last few seasons, the Jets’ run defense up the middle has been problematic.

When was the last time they had a dominating defensive tackle who made it almost impossible to run in his area?

The last one we can remember was Mo Wilkerson in 2013-15, before he broke his leg late in the 2015 season, and was never the same.

But during that dominating stretch before the devastating injury, good luck running at “Big Mo.”

Before that, another player like this for Gang Green was Kris Jenkins in 2008, who was so dominant and hard to run at that he was actually in the conversation for the NFL’s Defensive Player of the Year award. His last two years with the Jets in 2009 and ’10 were derailed by injuries.

But since Wilkerson and Jenkins, who have the Jets had it like that over the last decade?

Quinnen Williams?

Not really.

While Williams was a good interior pass rusher, he had issues against the run. Due to his lack of ideal size, he would often get velcroed to blocks on big runs up the middle.

The Jets need a massive, athletic, dominating interior defensive tackle who constantly makes it hard to run up the middle.

Desperately!

They got gashed up the middle against the run all year, even in the season finale, facing a Buffalo line with four backups, and the Bills ran for 211 yards, with Ray Davis rushing 21 times for 151 yards.

It’s time for the Jets to once again have a cat like Mo or Kris, a guy who teams would think twice about running at.

*(This article is from the January issue of Jets Confidential Magazine. On Thursday, the Jets agreed to a trade for 6-4, 366-pound nose tackle T’Vondre Sweat. So perhaps finally, they have found that missing piece for the middle of their defensive line.)
