Florham Park – There was more drama with Haason Reddick on Thursday.
The defensive end finally ended his holdout earlier this week, and was supposed to talk to the media on Thursday, but decided not to.
There was a lengthy negotiation at his locker between Reddick, a PR official and somebody on a phone, with the phone being passed between the player and the PR guy. Maybe it was Reddick’s agent on the phone. The negotiation ended with Reddick saying he wouldn’t talk to the media today, but will after the Jets-Patriots game on Sunday.
Most fans don’t give a rat’s behind whether players talk to the media, so this won’t matter much to them, but it makes you wonder when the drama will end with this player, whether it contract holdouts, disputes with business partners and so forth.
But here is the bottom line:
Drama or no drama, he’s in the last year of his contract, a contract whose value has been diminished by holding out seven games.
If he wants to earn a big contract in 2025, either with the Jets, or somewhere else, he needs to dominate on the field and amass a bunch of sacks.
He has no choice but to produce if he wants to get a big bag after this season.
So his need to do that could benefit the Jets, no matter what you think of his act.
