If the Jets look to pull off an improbable run, digging out of a 3-6 hole, and challenge for a wildcard spot, they must fix their run defense.
It looked like their inconsistent offense might have finally clicked in the second half of their win over Houston, but again their run defense was substandard.
With all the attention paid to Garrett Wilson’s second TD catch, which was one of the greatest grabs in NFL history, and the team snapping a five-game losing streak, the fact that they gave up 187 yards rushing might have flown under the radar.
Season-long issues like missed tackles, poor gap integrity, and players running too far upfield past ball-carriers, were all on display against Houston.
With 10 days to prepare for Arizona after playing on Thursday Night Football, Jeff Ulbrich and his defensive staff had some extra time to fix this.
We will see if they can on Sunday.
If not tailback James Connor and scrambling QB Kyler Murray could have a field day.
The Jets making a run to grab a wildcard spot is probably a long shot, and it’s an even longer shot if they don’t fix their run defense.
