East Rutherford – Jets QB Tyrod Taylor hurt his groin early in the Jets’ loss to Miami Sunday and did not return to the game.
Backup QB Justin Fields missed the game with a knee injury.
The Jets were forced to play undrafted rookie free agent QB Brady Cook for most of the game. He finished with a 35.5 QB rating, threw two picks, and was sacked six times.
If Taylor and Fields aren’t available next week, the Jets will have to add another QB to either start, or backup Cook.
A possible candidate could be San Francisco 49ers practice squad QB Adrian Martinez, who was with the Jets in the offseason and in training camp.
The Jets went with the less experienced Cook over Martinez for their #3 job on the final cuts at the end of camp.
Now, if they need another QB, they could sign Martinez, who knows their system.
If a player is on another team’s practice squad, you can sign him to your regular roster, since it’s a promotion for the player.
So if Taylor and Fields are not available for the Jets’ next game, in Jacksonville, and they need a second QB, Martinez could be a good option.
