It’s well-documented that the Jets have missed the playoffs 14 years in a row, a current NFL high.
So perhaps a sea change is needed in how their football operation is run.
There was a recent blockbuster story regarding the owner perhaps meddling quite a bit with major football decisions.
And that is his right. He owns the team.
However, if the Jets want to right the ship, some would argue that the best plan moving forward is for the owner to hire a GM and coach and let them do their thing without meddling.
Recently, ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported:Â “A source told ESPN recently that he’d be ‘shocked’ if Johnson, 77, brings back Aaron Rodgers.”
On Tuesday, Rodgers was asked if he thinks Johnson wants him back next year.
“You should ask Woody,” Rodgers said.
No, if the Jets want to turn things around, you should probably ask the new GM and coach.
Because when it comes to a major football decision like who the QB will be, shouldn’t that be up to the GM/coach? Isn’t that why you hire them and give them the big bucks to make major football decisions like this?
Of course, the owner should have conversations about important matters with the new GM and coach, that is his right as the man signing the checks.
But if the Jets truly want to turn it around, they should let the new GM and coach make big football decisions like whether to bring Rodgers back.
That is the best formula for success.
