Rex Ryan has one year left on his contract.
It reportedly pays him $3 million.
Why can’t he just coach under that deal?
This isn’t college football where one-year deals for the head coach hurt recruiting.
To me, in pro sports, one-year contracts aren’t such a negative.
And that applies to players and coaches.
Why not dangle the carrot? Keep the motivation high.
Look at how well a player like Willie Colon played under a one-year deal.
Look at Calvin Pace.
When you are playing or coaching for that next contract, it raises the motivational bar.
There is nothing wrong with Ryan coaching under a one-year deal in 2014.
