Is this wrong message to send veteran FA QBs?

The Athletic’s Diana Russini reported “The New York Jets reached out to veteran free-agent QBs and it was the same message with each “‘If you come here, Zach Wilson is the starter. You will be the backup.'”

If this is accurate, why would you sign, if you were certain guys (with starting ability)?

It’s not that you would just hand the new QB the job, but they probably need to know they will have a chance to start.

Now you don’t want the QB to say that publicly like Joe Flacco did when he signed in late October of 2021. That was wrong.

But off the record, you should let the player know that starting is a possibility if things don’t go well with the current starter.
