Florham Park – Following the Jets 40-14 loss to Buffalo on Sunday, cornerback Sauce Gardner said he feels some of his teammates might have “checked out.”
“What was the score for the first time we played them? It was 23-20, and you are telling me now it’s 40 to nothing? If you ask me, that means it’s the end of the season, we’re not going to playoffs, and some people might be checked out,” said Gardner.
Checking out is not the problem.
On November 6, the Jets had a similar lopsided loss to Arizona, falling 31-6. The Cardinals looked like a juggernaut in that game, but have lost five of their six games since then, with the only win coming over New England.
The Jets’ issues are more related to a lack of accountability, outdated schemes, and poor personnel decisions, especially on defense.
The defensive scheme is outdated. It is too static and predictable. The Indianapolis Colts play a similar scheme. Did they see the Colts-Giants game on Sunday?
Quitting isn’t the problem, just undisciplined football which included 16 penalties on Sunday, including a pass interference penalty in the end zone.
