It might be hard to have sustained success with this formula . . .

The Jets beat the Cleveland Browns on Sunday with only 54 yards passing.

They had 12 yards passing going into the fourth quarter.

While they won the game, how sustainable is winning in the NFL with so few yards through the air?

“Yeah, well again he only threw 11 passes and here’s what I tell the coaches and players; as coaches we coach to win the game, as players you play to win the game however that may be,” Jets coach Aaron Glenn said on Monday. “And sometimes it’s not pretty for fantasy players, sometimes it’s not pretty for the media, the only thing that matters is how we do it and the W is all that matters. It’s a by-any-means-necessary type of League, and my plan is continue to coach to win the game, you know, however that may be and we’re going to continue to do that.”

Some might argue you can win games with this approach against opponents that don’t have great passing offenses, like Cleveland, but not against more high-powered passing attacks.

Here is more from Glenn on the performance of the Jets’ passing game on Sunday:

“You know what, collectively as an offense, I think we did some good things,” Glenn said. “The thing is when you get two returns like that on special teams the offense doesn’t have a good amount of plays especially in the passing game. We only threw 11 passes. I think he was 6-of-11- obviously, there’s some things that we got to clean up there.

“I know [Justin Fields] threw the one pick. I will say this, I was happy that he tried to force the ball, get the ball down the field in that situation. I thought Cleveland did a hell of a job in their coverage. They ran this inverted two where the safety ended up being the middle runner, and I thought they did a good job with that.”

But some would argue the Jets didn’t do a good job overall throwing the ball on Sunday, and will have to do more through the air to have a shot at beating red-hot New England with QB Drake Maye, or Baltimore with Lamar Jackson.
