We live in an era where gaslighting is the rage.
Gaslighting is when somebody says something perfectly logical, and another person acts like that person is crazy for making that statement.
You say something that should sound reasonable, and another person will try to make you seem insane for your opinion.
Before the Jets signed Trevor Siemian this week, there only other option at QB behind struggling Zach Wilson was Tim Boyle.
So some people would say if they had no choice but to stick with Wilson, and they would belittle Boyle as not a serious option in their argument.
I said on Channel 11 last Sunday that if Zach Wilson continues to struggle, they should try Tim Boyle.
You would think I should be committed. I got gaslit big-time.
This is the same Boyle who had a pair of two-touchdown games in the preseason, one against the Carolina Panthers, and the other against the Giants. Zach Wilson didn’t throw one TD pass in the preseason. Some will say Boyle was playing against backups. Wilson often was also after the first series or so.
Look, I’m not putting Boyle in Canton, but to say the 29-year-old QB wouldn’t be a slight upgrade over the Wilson we are seeing now, is foolish.
He actually is more comfortable in the system after two years under Nate Hackett in Green Bay.
This concept that he wouldn’t be a slight upgrade right now, is absurd.
Robert Saleh said they are staying with Wilson because he gives them the “best chance to win.”
Is that fair to Boyle?
Or course not.
But perhaps Saleh is just doing what he is told.
“What they should be mad at was one of the most fundamental problems at the Raiders when Al Davis was running team,” said former NFL GM Mike Lombardi on VSIN. “The owner wouldn’t let you get rid of a player who wasn’t any good because he believed the player still was going to be good. He didn’t want to have to take the bullet. How long did they keep (QB) JaMarcus Russell, when they knew it was over and this is what is going on. Who is making them keep Zach Wilson, it can’t be Nathaniel Hackett, who must be saying, ‘I can’t win with this guy.'”
So Lombardi is saying that this is Woody Johnson’s decision. I can’t verify that one way or the other.
But how do you think Aaron Rodgers truly feels about how they are handling Boyle, who he considers, “like a little brother.”
To me, this situation is bizarre.
You are telling me, that Boyle, could not go out there and do a little better than what we saw from Wilson this last couple of weeks.
If so, why is he on the team?
We know Rodgers wanted him here, but Rodgers is even in the building right now.
So you are going to keep a player around, to appease Rodgers, when Rodgers is on injured reserve?
What is that?
I thought the whole “wish list” thing was blown out of proportion, but to keep Boyle around, when you don’t think he could give you a little more than the Wilson we saw the last couple of weeks, and over the second half of last year, is truly a wasted roster spot.
And I consider it insulting to my intelligence.
But maybe the gaslighters are right.
I’m crazy.
