Jets rookie receiver, Arian Smith, who is one of the fastest players in the NFL, has played more the last two weeks, with Allen Lazard out against Denver, and Garrett Wilson inactive against Carolina.
In those two games, he had 1 catch for zero yards, and that came on Sunday against the Panthers.
He has been targeted four times.
It’s hard to believe that this player, with world class speed, isn’t flashing open more.
If deep shots aren’t working, how about having him run more dig routes, where he fakes going deep, which defensive backs have to honor, and then he stops and cuts across the middle at 10-15 yards.
Look, we know he’s a rookie so there are some things he needs to work on, but for goodness sake, how on earth is a guy, with his kind of rare speed, not more of an option in a passing offense stuck in the mud?
Something is amiss here.
Why is this 4.3 sprinter not being used more. Let’s be honest, not every DB can run with a cat who runs like this.
This really doesn’t make a ton of sense, and needs to be put under the microscope this week at 1 Jets Drive.
This doesn’t pass the smell test.
