On Monday, a report from SNY about the Jets went viral all over the internet and on the cable sports debate shows.
“The Jets made legitimate attempts this offseason to hire someone who would, essentially, replace Hackett,” wrote SNY’s Connor Hughes. “Not as a new offensive coordinator, but a title above who would run the show. The Jets had enough things they needed to address this offseason without replacing areas they’re content with. That pursuit tells me, internally, there are legitimate concerns with Hackett’s ability to successfully run things.”
The Jets could not have been thrilled with the timing of this report from a media partner.
At this point, whether you like Hackett or not, stories about this job security were kind of in the rearview mirror, with the spring practices underway, the return of Aaron Rogers to the practice field, and a slew of new talent on the team.
So this report kind of kicked over an ant hill at a strange time.
While the story was huge nationally, for some reason, no other Jets beat writers, from newspapers, wrote about it.
