Jets brass deserve credit for this . . .

ESPN’s Adam Schefter announced that the Jets have traded QB Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2027 sixth-round pick.

Considering the player has a 16-37 record as an NFL starting QB, you could argue it’s impressive that Jets GM Darren Mougey was able to get a sixth-round pick.

And what is also impressive is that Mougey and Jets coach Aaron Glenn are eschewing confirmation bias this off-season, and based on their actions, admitting they made a lot of personnel miscues last year.

Aside from moving on from Fields, several other moves point to lessons learned from first-year personnel miscues.

The Jets’ defensive line was substandard last year, and Glenn/Mougey are clearly laser-focused on fixing it, so far adding four players – DTs T’Vondre Sweat and David Onyemata, along with defensive ends Joseph Ossai and Kingsley Enagbare, with more help on the way, likely with the #2 pick overall in the draft.

Safety was an issue last year, and they added two new safeties (Minkah Fitzpatrick and Dane Belton) and re-signed Andre Cisco.

There are other examples as well, like bringing in Demario Davis to lead their linebacker corps.

As philosopher George Santayana once said, “If you don’t learn from history, you are doomed to repeat it.”

Clearly, Glenn/Mougey learned from their brief history with the Jets and some of the mistakes made in Year 1 of their program.

And for that, they deserve some credit.
