The goal of all NFL teams is to have a dominating defensive line.
The Jets have one this year, led by guys like Quinnen Williams, John Franklin-Myers, Jermaine Johnson and Bryce Huff.
But the problem in a salary cap sport is you can’t pay everyone, so who knows how long they can keep this band together.
Huff is a free agent after this year. So is Quinton Jefferson, who is doing a nice job playing next to Williams at defensive tackle. Johnson is earning a nice second contract in the near future.
Who knows what the future will hold for this unit, but right now they have them together, playing great, and keeping the Jets in games while their offense struggles.
So it’s important for the Jets’ football brass to figure out a way to get their offense going, while they have this special defensive line group, so they don’t waste the window they have together.
Because with the salary cap, the NFL stands for “Not for Long” when it comes to keeping entire dominating units together.
