The Jets are currently ranked 31st against the run.
One thing that must improve is setting the edge better, and not letting running backs take the corner on them.
Here are two examples from the fourth quarter of their loss to Miami last Friday:
1-10-NYJ 13 (15:00) Raheem Mostert right end for 13 yards, TOUCHDOWN.
1-10-MIA 21 (7:54) Darrynton Evans left end to MIA 34 for 13 yards.
Setting the edge against the run is of the utmost importance in football, on any level.
“From Pop Warner through to the NFL, that coaching point remains the same,” wrote John Harris, a former coach, for the Houston Texans website. “The one player responsible for not allowing the running back outside of him is the most important player in that particular defense. Over the years, the one responsibility for any outside linebacker or defensive end against the run was condensed down to three important words: Set. The. Edge.”
With Atlanta coming to town, they better get this fixed. The Falcons have a very strong rushing attack featuring guys like Bijan Robinson, Tyler Allgeier and Cordarrelle Patterson.
