The Jets need to land a big-time offensive coordinator who has already shown he can successfully call plays on the NFL level.
And while I don’t like to tell other people how to spend their money, I will in this case – the Jets need to go out and spend what it takes to hire a proven NFL offensive play-caller!
There is a salary cap for players in the NFL, but there isn’t one for coaches.
So teams can spend whatever they darn well please on coaches. At this time in Jets history, it’s not the right time to shop for an OC at the five-and-dime store, and I’m not saying they are doing that. The proof will be in the pudding once the hire is announced.
We know the economy has been rough for the last few years, and the stadium hasn’t exactly been full very often, but Woody Johnson, along with his erudite financial planner, and right-hand man, Ira Axselrad, should give Aaron Glenn the go-ahead to spend what it takes to bring in a bona fide NFL play-caller.
So whether it’s Frank Reich or somebody else like that, the Jets need to land one of these proven cats who have shown they know the whys and wherefores of calling offensive plays successfully on the NFL level.
As Johnson once said on “Hard Knocks” in Cortland – “You can’t blow it.”
When it comes to this OC hire, the Jets “can’t blow out.”
