Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, talking to somebody at 1 Jets Drive, found out this . . .
“They are over the moon with what they have seen from Olu Fashanu their first-round pick so far,” Breer said Thursday on FS1’s “The Herd.”
Breer added: “They believe they got a future Pro Bowl player in Olu Fashanu on the roster.”
The selection of Penn State’s Fashanu, an offensive tackle, with the 11th pick of the 2024 draft, helps the Jets in two ways.
First of all, if one of their veteran tackles – left tackle Tyron Smith or right tackle Morgan Moses – gets hurt – they have a first-round talent to fill in. According to Penn State, Fashanu didn’t allow a sack in his last two seasons in Happy Valley.
Secondly, they have a left tackle heir apparent to Smith already in the building and who is getting trained by them. Smith is 33 and only signed for one year.
So the pick might help them in the present, and definitely in the future.
