East Rutherford – The Jets’ defense had one of their better games of the season in the team’s 17-12 win over Cleveland on Sunday.
They sacked Browns QB Deshaun Watson eight times and held RB Quinshon Judkins to 44 yards on 14 carries.
Browns coach Todd Monken said the Jets defense showed some different looks than in their first four games.
“They did a few things a little bit differently,” Monken said. “They’d been playing a ton of shell (coverage). And this week, I think they changed it a little bit, played a little bit more man.”
The combination of more man-to-man coverage and a ton of blitzing made it tough for the Browns’ offense to get into a flow on Sunday.
“I’ve got to do a good job of making sure I create things like that,” Glenn said about all the exotic blitzes the Jets dialed up against Cleveland. “Duke (Defensive Coordinator Brian Duker) has got to do a good job of helping make sure we create things like that.”
But don’t expect them to be this blitz-heavy every week.
“Every game takes on a life of its own, and I don’t put myself in a box on who I am as a play caller,” Glenn said.
And the “life” this game took on was one that of a defensive blitzkrieg.
“We just felt like this was a week we could take advantage of some of the pressures that we have in our system,” Glenn said.
And those pressures were quite effective on Sunday, helping the Jets break the three-game losing streak.
