Morris County – In the middle of Tuesday’s practice, Jets starting safety Minkah Fitzpatrick came to the sideline with some kind of leg issue.
He then went to a side field, next to where the Jets were practicing, to discuss it with trainers.
Then he went into the medical tent for an examination.
Then he rode a stationary bike for a while to loosen up, whatever it was.
The good news for the Jets is that, whatever it was, he worked through it with the trainers and then returned for the latter part of practice.
Not only did he return to the defensive lineup, but fielded a punt. He seems to be an emergency punt returner for the Jets, in case something happens to Isaiah Williams. Fitzpatrick is often seen fielding punts in practice.
But the bottom line is, whatever the temporary leg issue was, it does not seem serious.
Fitzpatrick, acquired by the Jets this off-season in a trade with Miami, is definitely the new leader of their secondary, who they expect not only to lead their deep patrol, but also help them in the interception department.
Fitzpatrick has 21 career picks on the NFL level. It’s well-documented that the Jets had no interceptions last year, and that is one of the reasons they acquired Fitzpatrick, to help them get off the schneid in this all-important statistical category.
