SI’s Albert Breer announced that the Jets interviewed Chris Harris for their vacant DC job.
“Jets interim DC Chris Harris interviewed for the team’s full-time defensive coordinator position yesterday,” Breer tweeted on Monday.
Breer also provided some clarity on how Harris is viewed in the football world.
“Harris has been widely seen as a rising star in coaching,” Breer tweeted.
Certainly, if he is “a rising star in coaching” as Breer reports, he should be a slam dunk for the job.
If you have a “rising star in coaching” as your interim defensive coordinator, why not just remove the “interim” tag and give him the job full-time?
Harris, a former NFL safety, has been in coaching since 2013, starting as a defensive quality control coach in Chicago for a couple of years, followed by DB coaching gigs with the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers (2016-19), Washington Football Team/Commanders (2020-22), Tennessee Titans (2023-24) and then the Jets this year. He was the Jets’ interim defensive coordinator for the last three games of this season after Steve Wilks was fired.
So if Breer is correct, and he’s “a rising star in coaching,” you’d have to think he’s a front-runner for the Jets’ permanent DC job.
Why would you let a guy who is viewed that way out of the building if he wants to stay?
Seriously.
