Sometimes, desperate times lead to desperate measures.
When a team is struggling, sometimes they attempt to grab back-page headlines about their team in the tabloids.
Sometimes, upper management will look to make a splash with a big move to give the fans “hope,” like trades for Tim Tebow, Brett Favre, Davante Adams, or Percy Harvin.
The Jets need to avoid making this kind of move right now.
First of all, these sorts of deals often involve sending future draft picks, and the Jets need to hold on to those and perhaps add some more via trading some of their own assets.
Secondly, why do it to perhaps sell tickets, when ticket sales don’t really mean as much as they used to, with teams making most of their money from the NFL’s multi-billion dollar TV contracts?
Nothing wrong with making a deal for a promising cornerback, Jarvis Brownlee, for a late-round pick, or signing players off other teams’ practice squads.
But to make a move now to make a big splash doesn’t seem pragmatic.
