Some random thoughts from the Jets-Eagles game . . .
I wouldn’t be shocked if the Jets try to trade Chris Herndon.
Clearly Tyler Kroft is the starting tight end, and while Ryan Griffin is injured now with a hamstring, it’s minor and he should be back soon. Even though he fumbled late in the game tonight, they like Daniel Brown a lot,a nd he played well before the fumble as a receover and bloacker, Kenny Yeboah had a heck of a game tonight with a two TD catches, including on a Hall Mary late, and they have a hybrid TE/FB Trevon Wesco. So that is four tight ends right there.
I think Herndon is a good player, but he could be the oddman out, and maybe he could use s change of scenery . . .
The Jets offensive line, all the different combinations played well tonight, and Joe Douglas is going to have some tough decisions between Corey Levin and Jimmy Murray was the second backup interior player. Dan Feeney probably isn’t going anywhere as a backup reserve, but they will probably keep only one other one.
You know who isn’t bad, the rookie free agent right tackle Grant Hermanns. He helped himself tonight, perhaps locking up a practice squad spot,
Speaking of the practice squad, that is probably where CB Jason Pinnock ends up. He was inconsistent tonight and in camp, and needs a lot of seasoning . . .
Jamien Sherwood struggled with his tackling on the Eagles first drive, missing two tackles, including on a TD pass to Boston Scott.
Not sure if starting two rookie linebackers, who are transitiong from safety, is a good idea, and I like both players.
Blake Cashman played well tonight and should probably be the starter opposite either Sherwood or Hamsah Nasrildeen. Another ouside linebacker who played well tonight is Del’Shawn Phillips . . .
DT Foley Fatukasi was dominant in brief action tonight, but Nathan Shepherd struggled getting off blocks . . .
RB Josh Adams helped himself a great deal tonight, either making the Jets, or catching on with another team. He was superb against Philadelphia . . .
George Fant played well at left tackle in the first half, and will give the Jets a heck of an insurance policy, if Mehki Becton struggles or gets hurt.
Fant’s more natural position is left tackle . . .
Second-year wide receiver Lawrence Cager probably locked up a practice squad spot with a strong showing tonight, including a TD catch on a fade from Josh Johnson, and a diving catch over the middle on a pass from James Morgan . . .
You have to give Jeff Smith credit. It didn’t look good for him in the spring and early in camp due to injury issues, but he ended up having a strong camp and preseason, and seemed to lock up a roster spot Friday night.
Mike LaFleur loves using him on Jet Sweeps. The Boston College product has world class speed . . .
J.T. Hassell continues to plays well and is probably going to be the third safety entering the regular season. He had sack tonight where he did a nice job shedding the block of a running back to get to Joe Flacco.
