Jets should definitely add somebody like this . . .

You see this in all sports, where a head coach hires an older coach, often a former head coach or manager in the case of baseball, as a sage advisor, who has seen everything, to bounce things off.

New York Yankees manager Joe Torre had grizzled veteran coach Don Zimmer on his bench from 1996-2003, a stretch the Bronx Bombers won four World Series Championships.

Long-time NBA coach Phil Jackson had Tex Winter on his bench in Chicago where they won six championships and then with the Los Angeles Lakers where they won three more.

Perhaps, the Jets could use somebody like this, an older coach, who has seen it all, for their coaches to bounce things off.

Las Vegas first-time head coach Antonio Pierce has hired long-time Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis to his staff. He’s also using former NFL head coach Tom Coughlin as a consultant. New NFL head coach Mike Macdonald hired former Minnesota Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier to his Seattle staff.

It’s never a bad idea to have a savvy veteran “bench coach” as a sounding board.
