The New York Jets have signed fifth-round draft selection fullback John Conner. The announcement was made by Jets General Manager Mike Tannenbaum.
Conner (FB/5-11/246/Kentucky/West Chester, OH) was selected 139th overall by the Jets in the 2010 NFL Draft. He played in a school-record 53 games and earned 27 starts during his five seasons. Primarily a lead blocker, Conner finished his collegiate career with 247 yards and four touchdowns on 54 carries and 193 yards and four touchdowns on 25 receptions. He was granted a medical hardship as a freshman in 2005 after sustaining a season-ending injury.
According to Aaron Wilson of NFP, “it’s a four-year contract with a total value of $1.989 million that includes a $199,000 signing bonus. If Conner triggers a fourth-year escalator clause, his deal can have a maximum value of $2.73 million. Conner received base salaries of $320,000, $405,000, $490,000 and $575,000.”
