The Jets are signing linebacker Demario Davis to start for them in the middle.
But they still have a big need at linebacker.
They need to sign or draft a linebacker who excels in pass coverage.
The Jets’ pass coverage at linebacker wasn’t good last year
In fact, it wasn’t that good the season before.
At 37, Davis can still play, but you can’t expect him to be an elite coverage linebacker at this stage of his career. He was solid overall last year in New Orleans, but had only 3 PDs and no interceptions.
They still need to find a speedy, instinctive coverage linebacker to play next to him.
It’s slim pickings in free agency for coverage linebackers with Nakobe Dean, Devin Bush and Quay Walker off the market, so perhaps that answer could come in the second round, with somebody like Texas Tech’s Jacob Rodriquez or Georgia’s C.J. Allen.
But this is clearly a big need that needs to be filled.
Pass coverage at linebacker has been a big problem for Gang Green for quite a while.
